However, we understand that some of our patients suffer from dental anxiety. Sedation dentistry offers an excellent way to provide a safe, anxiety-free dental experience to those who are fearful of dental work. The doctor may also recommend sedation dentistry if the procedure(s) require an extended period of time, even if dental anxiety is not present.
An oral sedative medication is given to the patient approximately 1 hour before treatment. The patient becomes relaxed, but is still conscious and responsive. Commonly, the patient will have minimal or no memory of the dental procedure.
The safety of our patients is of the upmost importance to us. Throughout the procedure the Dentist and assistant will closely monitor the patient’s level of sedation with a pulse oximeter. We also require our patients to have a driver to and from any appointment when oral sedation is utilized.
If you would like to schedule a new patient comprehensive dental exam, or have questions about Oral Sedation dentistry, please contact us for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
